Learn with Laurel Munro

With over twelve years in this industry, I have owned four brick and mortar retail locations, executed over three hundred weddings and events and hosted over 150 workshops. The key to my success over the years has been my focus on one-of-a-kind, Fine Art design. I have constantly pushed myself to expose my customers and followers to a world of flowers like they have never seen, with a focus on seasonally available product.

These classes are suitable for professional Florists as well as hobbyists. No experience is required.

Fine Art Design

*Formerly "Mint Masters"

Anyone can be a Florist. In fact, the market is highly saturated with social media accounts and new businesses popping up all the time with feeds full of flowers. Most are fairly boring and really do not inspire new followers or potential customers.

If you are a professional Florist or hope to become one, you need to set yourself apart from the mason jar arrangements and repetitive content seen over and over again.

We will use the finest available local and seasonal product to work through the process of creating organic, nature-inspired floral designs. There is no formula. There is no step-by-step. I will teach you how to build, evaluate and create a piece of art with flowers and step outside of your comfort zone.

All materials will be provided as well as light refreshments.

Each student will receive professional quality photos of their design process and finished product to use for their own brand content.

Limit of 8 people per class will ensure my full, hands-on attention.

All classes will be held at M & R Catering in downtown Whitby. Street parking is available directly in front of shop location and P parking can be found on Elm St., just North of the building.

Autumnal Harvest Wreaths

Create your very own, one-of-a-kind Fall wreath with locally sourced grapevine and dried, harvest-inspired embellishments. These everlasting wreaths are made to adorn a sheltered front door season after season, or can be placed indoors for Autumnal decor.

All materials will be provided and students will have a selection a various dried elements such as berries, citrus fruits, vines, and dried branches.

Please note: these wreaths are not meant to stand the elements of rain, snow or sun. If placing on a front door, please ensure they are on a covered, sheltered porch. Because they are made from dried or preserved elements, they will last forever with minimal care.

All classes will be held at M & R Catering in downtown Whitby. Street parking is available directly in front of shop location and P parking can be found on Elm St., just North of the building.

Fresh Winter Wreaths

My fresh winter wreath class has become a workshop favourite over the years! These classes sell out quickly every season.

Create your very own signature door wreath with seasonal winter greens, dried berries and citrus, rose hips, pine cones, eucalyptus pods and cotton stems. Your neighbours will know you did NOT get this one from the grocery store!!

Wreaths are meant to be kept outside and will last an expected 4 months or more during the cold season. If in an apartment or condo, your wreaths will need extra care and will not last as long as those kept outside. We've been told by many students that their wreaths dried very nicely once they were brought indoors!

All classes will be held at M & R Catering in downtown Whitby. Street parking is available directly in front of shop location and P parking can be found on Elm St., just North of the building.

Join me for my 5th annual centrepiece workshops! I will take you through the steps of arranging your very own seasonal centrepiece to show off on your dinner table or gift to a lucky hostess! Students will be provided with all materials needed to create and take home your very own masterpiece.

Pieces will be made with long-lasting flower varieties to get the most time out of your flowers as possible. Arrangements should last one - two weeks with proper maintenance.

Please choose from Thanksgiving or Christmas time slots. All materials will be provided.

Farm Forage and Fine Art Design

Join us for the ultimate flower experience!!! Students will start by cutting their own locally grown blooms by Country Cut Flowers on their farm near Newmarket, Ontario. With a bundle of freshly picked, seasonal flowers, we will provide a guided tutorial in fine art flower arranging. The class will be held in a rustic barn and each student will be provided with a vessel to arrange in and take home.

This is an amazing opportunity to experience the "field to vase" movement of floral design and spend a day in fresh air and good company! Please dress accordingly as we will be cutting straight from the field. NO flip flops! Please also ensure you bring a hat/sunscreen if required.
